Adding Green Technology to Home Building one Project at a Tiime

Solar Thermal Training June-5-2010
We just recently completed Solar Thermal Training at Solargin in Dahlogena Georgia. The Training was extensive and and included the consulting with client, desing and the installation of several types of systems.

Welcome to Our New Website !

In the past when energy was cheap and proliferous it was easier,  cheaper and acceptable to build inefficiently.  Now we are faced with the possibilities of energy shortages through the use of fossil fuels and energy aftermath problems through the use of nuclear power.  We are developing new strategies and reviewing old ones to enable us to move forward in a positive direction that will not only give us clean energy for now but will secure the future for our children's children.  Although we have begun to embrace these natural and non polluting resources, the current solar and wind energy creators are still their infancy's.  It really is time for the creative and ingenius to step up and help move us forward into a bright and energetic future.

In this environment of cooperative thinking Design Net Zero has formulated a method to enable homeowners to live near or at net zero.  That means that at the end of the day, your electric bill could be zero.  To get to netzero the main component is a superior envelope.  That may sound like business as usual, but in reality to achieve this level we need to instill blocking of thermal bridging.  Thermal bridging is one of the key factors that enables heat transfer from the outside to inside and inside to outside.  The r-factor of 2's is considerably less than the r-value of insulation.  In our new builds we are going to use Structurally Insulated Panels(SIPS) to achieve an energy barrier that is super energy efficient.  SIPS are a prefabricated foam core of expanded polystyrene sandwiched between two layers of Oriented Strand Board(OSB).  The r-value that can be achieved with this method is far superior to standard fiberglass insulation and the assembly process is much faster than standard stick built.   Along with the forestalling of thermal bridging, the use of multiple applications of low-e coatings on windows to inhibit solar heat gain and the installation  thermally efficient doors will provide us with a firm foundation in netzero fundamentals and lead us towards a zero carbon footprint.

To further this process we need to implement the use of solar thermal water heating and a 2 to 3 kilowatt  solar photovoltaic array. We are going to educate you as a homeowner on how to conserve, how to maintain a smaller usage of power and how to consistantly achieve netzero usage in your life.  It is a process that we plan to intiate with you.  We will set each client up with computerized monitor, that enables them to view their usage daily and with visual confirmations of how to improve their methods of their usage.

We here at Design Net Zero look forward to the opportunity to work with you and helping you to create the most energy efficient envelope and energy package for either your new home or the one you already own.
